Creating custom voice overs - scripts here

(G0-Gerbil) #1

UPDATED THE FILES - GRAB THEM HERE:

http://theburrow.fragland.net/miscellaneous/vo/vo_words.zip <- 11k

Thanks to the people in this thread that have corrected my german :)

I’m going to be creating custom voice overs for my maps soon.
To avoid them sounding awful I’m going to attempt to make them by editting the voice overs that already come with ET.
While limiting in objectives etc, at least they’ll fit in.

Anyway, to help out, I went through all the voice overs and have written down the scripts sorted by filename.

I intend to also sort them by word, but have got to get my program outputting it properly at the moment, so that’ll come later (how much later I dunno).

Note for the Axis I ain’t sure on the spelling of the ranks, and that ‘loose loose’ bit, well, spelling be damned, unless someone here with some german skills wants to help out

Edit:

Deleted these lists, the ones you can download in the third post below are much more useful

Here’s lists of the actual words available for each team in alphabetical order.
Building your voice overs out of this may be tricky, but it’s all we’ve currently got :frowning:

OK here’s the complete lists broken down into individual words and files they appear in.
Download the following two text files.
Words are listed on the left, and directly below it indented are all the files of that team that use it.

nice post there gerbil, this should be a sticky

Nice work Gerbil…I could’ve really used something like this about a month ago when I was doing the custom voice-overs for saberpeak.
Unfortunately though it’s not just about having the words, they also have to match in intonation and pitch when the announcer says them otherwise the sentences formed sound really awful.
You can also form words that are not there by editing the already existing ones, but that might be too much work for some people. That’s how I made the words ‘sub’ , ‘base’ and ‘boat’ for the saberpeak announcements.
In any event good job cataloging this stuff, I’m sure a lot of people will find this very useful.

(Loffy) #6

Good job G0-Gerbil!

(G0-Gerbil) #7

I agree about the tone etc, that’s why where possible I list all the alternatives possible for the words.
Also, I don’t see this kind of voice editting as particularly simple either - to do it you’ll need to know your way around some sound editting software.
Mainly because you need to chop out the words, possibly edit the pitch, blend them and spaces together, ‘top and tail’ the file (for the radio on/off sounds) etc.
So it’ll never be a simple job, but for those prepared to do it, it should help a lot

BTW, I’m working on something that should make this whole process a bit easier, which will work on a word-basis. Which means, if people ‘create’ new words, like sub, base and boat etc, they can be incorporated. I’m not going to say more on this though cos it’s a work in progress

(G0-Gerbil) #8

Also, the tone / voice thing is why I haven’t bothered to include any of the ‘I need a medic!’ chats and fireteam chats etc, they are completely different people so I just ignored them completely.
In case anyone is wondering

Could still do with some help on the german translations of the ranks and the ‘hurry, loose loose’ bit - how the hell do I spell ‘loose’? Oh and did I spell ‘schnell’ correctly too?

(Vitriol) #9

it’s “los”, and yes you spelled schnell correctly. lucky for you there are a ton of germans that play rtcw and et.

(G0-Gerbil) #10

Any chance you could peruse the german ranks then too for me?
I’ll change them all in one go and mark when I’ve updated the lists.

[EDIT] Completely forgot to say ‘thanks’ for that. Thought I’d correct myself now. Thanks

(nUllSkillZ) #11

I’ve just went through the list of axis words (searching for “promo”).
I’ve found three “mistakes”:
haufman should be hauptmann
leitenant should be leutnant
oberschutzer should be oberschütze (if you don’t have ü = oberschuetze)

(G0-Gerbil) #12

Muchas gracias - I’m not suprised my german isn’t up to scratch. Will sort them and update them later today hopefully

(zl1corvette) #13

you can find all the ranks in the ET manual http://www.enemyterritory.org/Manual/Default.htm

(thegnat) #14

THAT will really help G0-Gerbil! :poke:

(Grand_Mister_P) #15

A tute on how to go about doing it would be good too, and one that would let me put my own recorded voices in too please!!

(G0-Gerbil) #16

Have updated the files - they are available to download from the link in the first post in this thread.
nullskillz and vitriol

(G0-Gerbil) #17

BTW I’ve started work on my custom voice overs.
While finding the right words to hack can be tricky, it’s not proving as difficult as I’d thought what with my lists.

Here’s a link to the latest voice overs I’ve edited for your perusal.

http://theburrow.fragland.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=350 <- Click on the links to hear the voice overs.

While personally I don’t like them much (yay oasis city flag backlog!), they do seem to help idiots, errr I mean n00bs in a map, and since they are in the official maps seems reasonable that customs should have 'em to, so I’m trying to make the effort.

Oh for the days of RTCW mapping - no voice overs, no sound editor mode, no tracemaps / command maps, full screen loading picture etc. etc.

(IndyJones) #18

does anyone still have that ‘vo_words.zip’ file? thanks.

(molotov) #19

All DL link is invalid, lol.

(IndyJones) #20

this thread have 4 years now. i know that download links are dead, that’s why i asked if anyone still have that file
