How about Linux client?

Dear Splash Damage and WarChest,

I have always admired Splash Damage’s objective focused, class based, team FPS titles; in fact back in the day I played Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory for a long time and still playing Enemy Territory: Quake Wars even though it is no longer digitally available and stats servers have already been taken down. I simply love the idea of objective focused gameplay which makes all classes essential.

One of the reasons that let me play Splash Damage’s titles is their GNU/Linux support. Thanks to that support I am able to play those games on my Linux system natively without compromising performance. Here is the point that I am trying to get; as Dirty Bomb successfully left early access/open beta, don’t you think it is time to work on Linux version? Both game engine and anti-cheat software supports Linux; I believe SteamOS port would be a doable task.

EasyAntiCheat:

Windows, Linux, OSX, … Unreal, CryEngine, Unity, … You name it! EasyAntiCheat is built to be compatible with all mainstream operating systems, and can be customized to any engine

Unreal Engine 3 support plenty of Linux game natively; here is the list UE3 games that run on Linux natively:

Note: Dirty Bomb’s engine version is 8710.

I prepared this list by matching engine’s Wikipedia list with SteamDB’s Linux list:

What do you think, can it be done? Thank you. :penguin:

Not really relevant to your enquiry, but just thought I’d mention that DB was never in early access, and it’s still in open beta.

AFAIK, Splash Damage didn’t do the LInux ports, that was TTimo from idSoftware

That is interesting, I am well aware that Linux ports of Doom 3 and Quake Live were handled by Timothee “TTimo” Besset but I didn’t know about his involvement with other id related titles; as it turned out you are right. Well, he recently ported another UE3 game, Rocket League; it is technically possible if Splash Damage considers that necessary.

Our current focus is making Dirty Bomb the best it can be on Windows PC. We’re not ruling out Linux or Mac versions however.
