Artist looking for help when creating a new TC

Hello all,

I was always a big fan of ET and, recently, i discovered that the source code of the game has been released. I was looking for ways to build up my 3D art portfolio and i couldn’t think of anything else other than a TC of my favorite game in the past. I have a bunch of art already and i’m currently reading and studying how to get them in game. I’m too spoiled by modern art pipelines (UE4, UDK, Source) and i’m not sure where to start. So i hope a few members of the community can help me out with those:

[ol]
[li]How do i replace the default player model? Does it need a specific skeleton structure or just specific frame names, like in Quake 3? If i need a specific skeleton structure, do i just need correct bone names or is there an open-source default skeleton that i should use to rig my model with? I’ve been using Maya’s HumanIK.
[/li][li]Where i can find the animation state machine so i can tweak the animations played and, maybe, add new states?
[/li][li]Which formats are the safest bets? Can i use IQM?
[/li][li]How do i replace the weapon models? I have the same questions as with the player model: just frame names or a specific skeleton?
[/li][/ol]

Hello vellis, new 3d artist are always welcome
well, the source uses .MDM models and to deal with that you need special programs like lightray 3d that doesnt exist anymore, or atleast I cant find the website of their anymore. I know that Jacker in ET:Legacy is working on a tool but its not all ready just yet.
I suggest you join in at https://gitter.im/etlegacy/etlegacy and ask there.
and animations for skeletons of player is .MDX format.
for weapons its easier as they are md3 format and have frame animations.

and if you are joining in at Gitter you can also visit us at Thewolfteam here:

and we have our forum here:

Best of Luck
