et-sdl-sound broken link

(blasterfaiz) #1

Hello. This isn’t my introduction thread, and I’m actually not here for that; I’ll be introducing myself in the other section shortly.

I am posting this on the behalf of Arch Linux users who, like me, are having trouble with getting ET working. The Arch Linux Wiki currently has a resolution posted on their page for the game regarding troubleshooting sound issues. It’s possible to install the game either by the Arch User Repository or the ZIP package, however the game is unable to play sound out of the box.

There’s a way to fix that by installing “et-sdl-sound” through the AUR. But the tar.gz package needed to fix it cannot be downloaded, as the link returns a “503 Service Unavailable” message.

This is the link I am referring to:
http://nullkey.kapsi.fi/et-sdl-sound/archive/et-sdl-sound-r29.tar.gz

I’m not sure if any of the developers come here to read the forum now and then, but I was told to contact upstream to get this problem fixed. I’ve left a comment on AUR page for “et-sdl-sound” notifying the users over there that the package link is broken before coming here (as stellarestuary):
https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/et-sdl-sound

If any of you play the game on Arch Linux and have a different solution, please post it here so I can let people over at the AUR know once it works for me. Other than that, I’d appreciate any more input from the developers or the community. If you have any questions to ask me, I’ll do my best to answer them. If you don’t know some of what I just said, don’t be afraid to ask for clarification as well.

Hm…well, while I’ve seen stuff like this before, I wasn’t what to do with it at first.

But then again, I got into Arch Linux willing to do DIY stuff. So what exactly are you showing me? And how do I use it?

Complete source code is here: https://github.com/nullkey/et-sdl-sound

Compile, put the lib at the right location and simply use the launcher.

And FYI, ET:Legacy has native built-in SDL sound support - it might be the perfect alternative for you.

I’ll let you know if ET Legacy works for me, thanks for mentioning.

Does anyone know to run scripts?
