XP Color code for mission in the UI

(FireWorks) #1

Ive just had the chance to peak into the stream with the current test build and noticed new dark red background for missions.

I wanted to take the chance and post some idea from the Nexon forums, that got a couple likes but didnt spark a real discussion over it:

New players sometimes seem to struggle with the different XP types required for specific missions.

You know the color codes for different ingame tasks:
Blue for Support XP like healing etc.
Yellow for Game mode XP like repairs etc.
Red for Combat XP from kill related tasks.

While its pretty obvious for veterans, I believe the game would benefit from using its own ingame color code through out the whole UI.

This includes the missions and the debrief screen. It doesnt have to be too much to kill the game’s general aesthetics, but at least write Combat, Game Mode and Support in their respective colors, maybe a bit “paler”.

So a mission would be:
Get 9000 Combat XP with Nader in your squad. The bold part would be red…

General XP would just stay as is.

I honestly don’t know how SD forget about us eye disabled people. Every game they release I whinge at them to release a colour blind mode, ffs guys you’d think you would have learned by now! To their defence though, they did listen to me during the alpha to make the friendly and enemies players stand out a little more.

I really like the initial idea. We’re updating the mission art in the next update and I’ll see if we can add more colour to the missions without making it super ugly.

With regards to colour-blind mode(s), it’s on our backlog but for now we provide a few settings that can be changed in the config files, detailed here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Dirtybomb/comments/3n7t1o/colour_blindness_tutorialguide/

Something I want to add: Is there a possibility to add hover over tooltips that explain how you get combat, game mode and support xp? I remember when I started playing that I didn’t really knew how to get game mode xp.

Very nice one. I hope they see this in time. I gotta go now but maybe someone can type up something to speed up the process so it might make it into the current patch.

Combat XP

Shoot things! Combat XP is related to the damage you dish out.

Sources include:
-Killing enemy players
-Assisting in killing enemy players
-Finishing enemy players
-Assisting in finishing enemy players
-Destroying enemy deployables like Turrets, Healing stations and Heartbeat sensors
-Damaging enemies with explosives

Support XP

Help your team! Everything related to making your team stay longer on the battlefield.

Sources include:
-Distributing ammo to teammates
-Healing teammates
-Reviving teammates
-Helping up teammates
-Spotting enemies via Hearbeat sensor and Infrared

Health insurance: Healing and reviving grants medics additional XP based on the XP the patient earns in the following seconds.

Game mode XP

Be objective! Doing the primary and secondary objectives that change the map.

Sources include:
-Arming C4
-Defusing C4
-Repairing the EV
-Escorting the EV
-Damaging the EV (Explosives, bullets and even melee work!)
-Delivering an objective
-Returning an objective
-Repairing generators
-Damaging generators (Explosives, bullets and even melee work!)
-Capturing forward spawns
-Defending for a certain amount of time

Its not perfect yet but should be able to help a bit if you decide to go with this kind of wording and listing. I intentionally left out the sticking together, deploy/pickup and guarding XP due to their low gain and possible negative impact on gameplay. Maybe someone can brush up the spotting XP part

If I’m not mistaken simply damaging enemies with explosive abilities earns you “Splash Damage” XP even if it’s not a kill or doesn’t lead to one as for assist XP.

(FireWorks) #12

Thats right, Ill add it in.

Bump for justice!
