Etconfig how it works?

I don’t understand how ETconfig works? I mean there’s some basic stuff saved right?

When I want to use a cfg I need to load first autoexec to get the right graphics settings then I also have ETconfig which then makes the graphics different…

so autoexec -> graphics correct -> ETconfig = graphics not right etc
autoexec -> graphics correct -> don’t type /exec etconfig = right graphics

so what’s the point if someone makes a config why they’d put the ETconfig file there too? if the autoexec really has all they need? or am I missing something?

IIRC settings you change through in-game menu’s etc. get saved to etconfig, so it can be overwritten at anytime without warning, this is the reason for using an autoexec, otherwise you run the risk of losing your customisations at the drop of a hat.

tl;dr: never use etconfig, always use autoexec

If you have ET in Program Files under Vista/7/8, maybe if you don’t start it as admin the file can’t be overwritten?
