Opening map

Hello everybody!

So I tried to open an old map project, but my GTKradiant just crashes. Here’s the console log:

Some more info: I used Netradiant a lot to make this map, but I can’t find the ET components for Netradiant, so I can’t test if it works there. I also already tried the backup file, same result.
Does anybody have any idea? I can open the goldrush source map just fine.

Thanks in advance!

Maps developed under NetRadiant make Gtk crash… Experienced this as well when teamworking with some friends.

(Justice) #3

Ah **** no… Any way to solve this, or do you have a link to download the ET components for Netradiant?

(Destroy666) #4

Here you are:
http://forums.warchest.com/showthread.php/1270-Tutorials-and-et-mapping-resources?p=359007&viewfull=1#post359007

(Mateos) #5

There is a more recent build than the one in this repo, the netradiant-20120705-win32. If needed, I can dig a link; I think I grabbed it from Tremulous forums…

(Justice) #6

Yey! Thanks both!

(ailmanki) #7

NetRadiant:
http://dev.xonotic.org/projects/xonotic/wiki/Netradiant

http://dl.xonotic.org/xonotic-0.7.0-mappingsupport.zip from http://www.xonotic.org/download/

The files for et I bundled here… good luck have not used that stuff since years: http://wet.peyote.ch/netradiant

maybe you would just have to change brush type in configs in newer radiant… dunno. It should not crash like that in any case. Maybe open a bug report on gtkradiant, with an example file.

(KeMoN) #8

I as-well use NetRadiant for mapping, so I downloaded GtkRadiant 1.6.4 to see where the problem might be.

GtkRadiant 1.6.4
Radiant crashed after opening, importing, loading the map as prefab, without console log

GtkRadiant 1.5.0
Map opening process failed, but at least the program remained stable. The console gave me following error message:

.\patch.cpp:186
assertion failure: patch too wide

Turns out it is a patch that GtkRadiant can’t display so I copied “brush 1633” which is a ‘normal’ patch

NetRadiant
Opened the map in NetRadiant. Filtered patches from the view. Selected everything and copied it in another NetRadiant file. Saved the map as <mapname_nopatch>

GtkRadiant 1.5.0
Opened <mapname_nopatch>. No error. Works like a charm.

GtkRadiant 1.6.4
Opened <mapname_nopatch>. No error. Works like a charm.

Conclusion: Those patches are “merged” patches. NetRadiant provides the possibility to merge several patches into one when they fulfill certain criteria.
GtkRadiant seems to struggle with those patches.

“Fix”:If you change the patches one by one, you might not know which patch you modified later-on.
That could leave you with several “corrupted/duplicated” patches.
Step#1: Rename you current map-file to <mapname_backup>. Do that in the explorer and NOT in radiant as that might screw your targetnames etc. I’ve encountered that problem before!
Step#2: Delete ALL patches from <mapname> and save it
Step#3: Rename <mapname> to <mapname_nopatch>. Do that in the explorer and NOT in radiant as that might screw your targetnames etc. I’ve encountered that problem before!
Step#4: Copy ALL patches from <mapname_backup> into a new mapfile and save it as <mapname_patch>.
Step#4.1If you have patches with targetnames: Copy/Paste <mapname_backup> in the explorer. Open <mapname_backup_copy> in radiant. Hide everything except patches and select ALL of them. Unhide EVERYTHING and invert the selection (EDIT > INVERT SELECTION). Now hit delete and save. Go to explorer and rename <mapname_backup_copy> to <mapname_patch>
Step#5: Check the <mapname_patch> for “corrupted” patches like I did above and delete all “corrupted” patches.
Step#6: Import <mapname_patch> into <mapname_nopatch> and replace missing patches

>> The problem in your case might be a completely different one. Just run a debug-process like I did above and check what GtkRadiant gives you as error messages. Please post here for future reference!!

Well in both versions you can use bobtoolz to merge patches.
But Netradiant allows to make up to 31x31 big patches. So you right, that paches are the issue. Probably just splitting them into smaller pieces would fix it.

I have sort of similar problem. When i copy anything in the map, nothing appears when I paste it or just small part of it appears. Also, if I save the map and open it again, it’s looks like i’m missing a lot of brushes, but the brush amount is same. I opened both in notepad, before and after saving the .map. The newly saved file has first brushes completely empty, nothing written in them. Then some other brushes have weird values like 2.2834708691 and stuff. I tried what Kemon wrote, didn’t help.

This map has a lot of patches, most of them are quite huge so I guess that can be problem. I can’t however delete the patches, nor copy the brushes to another map file, as it all leads into corrupt .map file when I save it. I’m using gtkradiant 1.5 but the map file has been originally mapped in 1.4.
