DB Feature 'Road Map'

Hey,

Something we’ve noted recently is that you folks are super keen to know what the team is working on feature wise, both in the short term and longer term, as well as with regards to balance changes.

The list below is a very high-level breakdown of the features we have planned for DB, a (very) rough timeline of when we’ll be aiming to achieve them, and a list of the biggest balance issues we’re discussing at present.

The list is by no means exhaustive, but we hope it gives you some idea of the volume of work still to do and what we’re thinking about.

This will live on the VIP forum for a short time and then, all being well, we’ll open this thread up to the whole closed alpha.

I was saying in: Maps too static

I understand very well your concerns for comp playing.
But I wish both world could have their fair share.
What if before listing servers list there was a question like …do you want to play DB (default) or in Competitive mode
from there list of servers would be filters and maps in comp server would be adapt to comp.
Like someone mention somewhere the first try of the game will be very important and I will add that if they see they have a choice of a mode they will probably be more willing to go further will the game

can this^^ be a solution for comp players ?

Why not specific enhanced maps for competition and maps for pubs? sort of like te_ in w:et

No because the people moaning in that thread are talking out of their arses, special effects in maps are not going to affect how they play in a stopwatch match. They should make the maps as best they can, the map you play on a public map should be the same map you play in competition.

Thanks for doing this. It really helps put things in context like the crosshair not being touched now because it’s planned to do work on it later down the line. It’s also nice to see the wonderful toys we can look forward too.

I think they want a consistent experience for pub and comp play so that there isn’t a chasm of differences for players as they move from one to another. It’s a good philosophy for the initial product, what I would expect is that if the competitive side takes off and the game is popular then as the map pool grows so could the focus on the maps.

Really love the list! I do think that being one of the first FPS games to successfully conform the LoL/SC style match making system is going to do absolute wonders for a new player base, really glad it’s some what of a high priority. Can’t wait to see how everything turns out *drool.

On a not unrelated note, how many maps are we currently thinking to ship with?
e.g. In the 5-6 sort of region, or more the 10-12.

'Trick’ jumping pass

What do you mean? Because I got the feeling that some people here think that you guys are going to implement some kind of trick jump system. And I doubt that that is the case. I think that It means that all the possible trick jumps, like on londen bridge, will be removed.

I think it refers to what Anti mentioned before about making more jump-able routes on the maps. This would be like being able to jump from one object to another to make “trick jump” routes and other such things.

Like Inferno said, it means going back over the levels and seeing where we can maybe put hidden alternate routes or vantage points that can only be accessed via jump sequences, crouch jumps or any other movement change we might get in.

Somebody (maybe it was Inferno) did a good thread of example screenshots of these kind of changes some time ago, will see if I can find it.

EDIT: Also, moving this thread from the VIP section to General forum now, so everybody can see the road map.
