An idea for alternate objective mechanics

Hi,

i basically have something really odd in mind, so i like to get your opinions on it.

Since many people seem to complain about the escort objective mechanics (too slow, maybe gets old), i thought about something alternative to deliver an objective to.

The idea is not yet finished though, but i put this here to get a bit of feedback wheather it would be regarded as an idea to further think about.

So i think on the whitechapel map you have to escort the EV to some place and pick up objectives there. Then the vehicle drives to the exit. Basically like goldrush.

How about the following: instead of an escort vehicle we have to construct a satellite based rocket system, which takes off after the objectives are delivered. Would be some cool effect, no ? I basically have that idea from the game firefall. I never played it though, but saw some youtube videos where people collect resources with some rocket based resource system, and that rocket then takes off

What do you think ? Wouldn’t that be cool ? The idea is, as said, not yet finished though. The problem is, that the ‘rocket’ (does not have to be a pure rocket though, but something similar) would stand in the middle of the map and take off prematurely, where in the escort VE like mission, the VE drives to an exit point. This is what i must think about some more. Maybe some coordinates you have to give to the rocket or something. And to deliver the coordinates you have to find a place where there is electricity and construct another system of some sort ?

What you think `Probably a stupid idea though, but i thought it would be worth a shot

When I started reading your post I was pretty excited about your idea. Just the idea of fighting to get a forward point. For phase one. Once the first point is captured, your team now spawns there an fights to blow a door, a casket, or a room up; To gain access to an item/items.

Keep in mind there may be ONE alternate direction to the first capture point, but is rarely used, but can be. Just to throw a little snapfoo in the defenses.

Once you successfully gain access to the objective you are now trying to transport that back to maybe your first spawn point where there is a truck waiting to take it. That’s when the truck would leave OR the rocket would take off because you stole the key codes or something.

In Firefall that is called a “Thumper” an when you put the thumper down it creates noise an makes things attack you, where then you need upwards to 5-15 people to help kill them to gather the resources that your thumping. Once the thumping process is done it then takes off an you collect the resources that it gathered; including resources that are dropped by all the monsters or what ever you want to call them. As for a rocket taking off after you have transported something as like an end map cinema I understand where you are coming from.

Basically this:

First half of the vid. At 4:20 it takes off.

As an end cinematic ? No, this would be way too “ah you gotta be impressed now”. It should rather be something to pep up mid gameplay of some sort.

Maybe make two objectives at once. Couldn’t hurt. Phase 1. Rocket, construct, rocket coordinates and init signal must be given by engineer. Rest is a secondary, different objective.

EDIT: also ‘rocket’ sounds really irritating. I am sure ‘air transport vehicle’ would be a better word, to not destroy this idea by speech. The transport vehicle can be made in a way so that it does not destroy the look and feel of the game; i am sure.
