Objective Types coming?

Just wanted to throw this out real quick.

What game type objectives do you guys like the most? For instance do you like escorting a vehicle? Or do you enjoy defending two towers from having bombs planted on them? Or maybe; do you enjoy blowing a room, door, building up an having to grab documents or objectives to transport to the winning location?

The thicking bomb will always be my favourite. But it’s a tad too polarised, erratic to be a final objective. Unless it’s two at the same time like in Refinery.

I’m not a fan of the escort missions personally, I prefer the bomb plant objectives or the ‘capture the docs’ stuff… except for Whitechapel, I think the enemy spawn is just too close for my liking.

ya the current game design is kind of bland, also the map design is very linear.

Now I finally know why I dislike that map. It’s so obvious now, but I never realised that it’s the short distance that makes the objective so meaningless.

Spawn times an locations are so crucial to a map working properly.

Escort objectives are generally my least favorite because vehicles tend to be too slow. I dyno plants are my favorite if the map is balanced.

Tank escort missions are actually my favorite. I don’t think there are any that I dislike, as long as they are slightly offensively biased.

My least favorite are definitely escort missions, since it’s always a slow roll forward.

I’m a big fan of just about all the others - Deliverable, Planting, Construction and Hacking.

The toughest to balance though are probably deliverable objectives, because part of what makes it so exciting is running through a gauntlet of players. It sucks defending against it if they’re able to get way ahead of you to easily… although vice versa it sucks carrying it if the other team can cut you off with little effort.

My opinion is that beyond the type of objective (I pretty much enjoy them all tbh) what’s far more interesting is having several ways of progressing through map stages (or accomplishing a heavy weight goal). Take Fuel Depot for example, at the end there you could dyno the side doors, satchel them and bring an engi or you could have a happy cvops-engi couple going roof top. I’m not talking about feasible / efficient ways of doing it from a clanwar perspective, I’m just pointing them out.

Having a nice pool of sub-objectives along with main objectives (wait for class X to do stuff with object Y, to go to next stage) diversifies the battle hotzones and therefore creates tactical variation. Just having a series of chokes (escort tank then blow door, etc) regardless of how awesome they are, will end up in endless shooting within the objective areas and nothing more.

Agreed. I’m not really a fan of escorting. It can feel like a bit of a chore.

I also agree with Hype - a bit of variety is nice. Although I don’t like too many stages to reach the final objective. Beach is my idea of the perfect map - two bomb objectives to gain access, a perfectly placed spawn point to capture and fight over, two routes to the docs, and plenty of fun places to fight in between. Simple enough to not clog down the action and complex enough to be fun after the 1000th play through.

I like escorts as long as they don’t go on too long.
A short path with a few fights is fun. Especially with the turret moving with you :slight_smile:

But yes… variety is the spice of life and the spice must flow!

escorting could be more fun if they were more than a vehicules like a groups of tanks …
or an obj that has to be defendi while deploying (radars, scanner, army’s HQ …)

Escort races… first team to escort their X to the goal changes the track of the rest of the map?

Ooh: branching objectives based on current objective outcomes?

idk maybe a convoy of tanks that try to cross the bridge and at lest one have to make it the other side of the bridge to win

I would love to see a map where you have to fight for a control point for the first phase. Like a spawn flag or something. An area where a true like 5 man defense can be setup an a 5 man offensive team has to work together to get past that defense.

My favorite would have to be pick up the objective and TRANSMIT it.
