Suggestions for upcoming gameplay videos

(Ashog) #1

There will certainly be some gameplay videos released and maybe even soon, so just copypasting what I mentioned on IRC (so that Locki doesn’t forget :))

For one gameplay video one could for example use a scene with a covops sniper zooming and popping two heads off in a row, a scene with an engineer repairing a turret (which isn’t available yet tho), a scene with a demoman exploding pipetrap and mirv (a possible new class) or planting a C4, a scene with a soldier with a rotating gatling gun (instead of minimi)… This could possibly attract attention of thousands of bored TF2 players.

For another video, one could use a scene of a pair of a medic and engie escorting the EV, a scene with engy disarming a C4, a scene of a fieldops placing laser beam for an airstrike, a scene with a covops in disguise (not implemented yet) viciously backstabbing (with loud death sound) someone, a scene with players using iron sight shooting and making headshots - this could stimulate an interest of ETQW players.

In yet another video, one could capture a team effort with several players storming some objective, medics reviving teammates near it, players hip-firing and crouching, free fast paced movement over map, perhaps some trickjumping - this will perhaps warm up the hearts of W:ET players.

For Brink players one could depict the female models, tattoos and generally all different player models, various guns and cool map areas, as well as shooting from some SMGs with high ROF.

As for fans of the CoD, BF, CS and other similarly silly games - I have no idea
But I guesss they are also needed, just for the business model

Any other typical SD gameplay stuff I forgot? Type it in!

Narrate a dead battlefield via flashbacks, panning over different elements and then ‘explaining’ them:

Start main scene: pan over some dead bodies, cut to action shot showing how they died,
return to main scene: continue panning over packs on the ground, cut to players performing choreographed teamplay on that location,
return to main scene: continue panning over objective location, cut to… you get the idea.

On a serious note; some chain class team play that shows how all of the different classes work together to complete the objective just in the nick of time. Something heroic and suspenseful of course.

I think it’d be cool to do a video where it’s a 6v6 (maybe have both an EU and NA 6v6) and SD just posts it up, unedited, and overlays one side’s VOIP on top of it and focuses the cameras solely on them (or get Greased, djWHEAT, or that war-something shoutcaster from W:ET if he’s still around to shoutcast). This would have to happen a lot later when the game has a better spectator mode, but it might be a cool way to promote the game; it would show how team oriented it is, its complexity, but simple to understand nature, and, if VOIP was used, how intense the games actually get. May have to bleep out a few words, though.

A good Gameplay video would be one that describes how Dirty Bomb handles TDM. For example, how enemy players need to be gibbed before the kill is awarded to the team scoreboard, and how medics who rez friendly players will negate enemy team kills etc.

Based on what Shacknews gamers posted after the teaser, I would say stuff that emphasizes a return to ET game mechanics and that the game is not Brink. Definite interest in more ET play. Not so much Brink play. Harsh, but true.
Also, anything that shows DB isn’t just another modern warfare death match shooter.

I agree with this. All the CoD game trailers love to show off their new toys, to some the ET style gameplay is a ‘new toy’. Have a still life scene with the camera flying past each class, medic reviving, engineer repairing etc with battlesounds and echoey voice overs from them as it does… then spring to life and show them doing their job in action.

Don’t forget the field ops with airstrike
and ammo throwing

(Humate) #13

My initial feeling is to show a straight up sequence of a team pushing past a choke, using all the necessary class actions.

Then the opposite, showing how each class can ‘bring it’ on their own.

Showing off TDM in an objective based game? Are you serious?

I think something as simple as throwing multiple med packs down will show people a mechanic they remember and they’ll make the connection themselves.

When I threw medpacks down that was the moment I thought it was a game more like the old ones.

People don’t want scripted stuff. Give one guy god-mode during testing and let him record some ridiculous frag-streaks.

I honestly wouldn’t go too stylised on the gameplay. In fact I’d wonder if it wouldn’t work better if you just had Dev Diaries or even invited certain gaming celebs to come play and then commentate on their experience. This should help add credibility to what you are showing. Honestly if we weren’t in here testing it would you want an overly produced cool looking video or 10 minutes of gameplay footage with SD explaining what’s going on or [insert your favorite let’s play youtuber or gaming icon].

Between that I would say you’d have some scope for pure hype building videos. Maybe just be cheeky and rip off other game trailers but DBs will obviously be better because it’s not a dumb shooter.

Oh and one other thing. SD is a pretty funny company. You’ve always injected humour into your games. Don’t forget that seems to be very much part of what people remember about your games. I wouldn’t be ashamed to ride that a little. I mean could you do a video using ONLY Vsays?

You mean get the Rooster Teeth onboard again? I’d be fine with that… unless they want to keep it serious.

I like a lot of the Achievement Hunters Let’s plays. They’re generally a lot of swearing and WTF confusion but they all seem to have fun.
