Brink PS3 version, worth it?

(Maggost) #1

Hello guys!

Since the game is pretty unplayable for me in the PC version (Terrible FPS rate) i would like to know if it’s worth it on PS3, because i have the console and i love the gameplay of the game.

I want to play it smooth and, the PS3 is active? the servers on PC are always empty in NA region.

(tangoliber) #2

I’m on PS3. I don’t know how bad your FPS rate is, but if it is possible, I think upgrading your PC a little bit would be preferable to getting the game for PS3.

We have two major issues on PS3

 1. Rather extreme host advantage which pretty much determines the outcome of most games.
 2. Matchmaking doesn’t work. We work around it by using chatrooms to setup games and invite people…but having a server list on PC is a huge positive.

I plan on getting a good enough PC to run this game, eventually.

Highest player levels are on Xbox. Next is PS3. Then PC. The game is not mainstream like COD and doesn’t have a 2, 3, 4, BLOPS, WOW, after the word BRINK. So the community is far smaller than popular games. On PS3 there is a large group of forum members here from around the world who play still. I suggest that you join them if you are seriously looking to play on console. You will have more fun with friends. Just like Beer, Brink is more fun with friends. The links to the PS3 Community Game Nights is at the top of the Forum page, it says: Community Game Nights?. Sign-up with the PS3 crowd. There you will find some cool dudes that you will enjoy gaming with!

I have a pretty decent PC, i can play any game at maxed settings without any FPS issues so is just Brink.

I will look for the community section for PS3, thanks in advance.

PS3 community for this game is pretty tight we get some good game goign just about every night and theres a few people on during the day (but mostly at night). You can still find random games too but those arent usually full unless its Standard. Feel free to add me my PSN name is the same as my name on here. If you add me an get the game I can invite you to the Chat rooms we use as lobbies. Although I have been playing U3 a bit more then Brink ATM due to the lack of DLC (I have over 100 hours on Brink already yikes) and the fact that I can play the U3 Beta split screen with my roommate so I dont have to hear him b*tching about me playing Brink in the living room too much lmao.

Post in the thread above or try to add QUIK. (I tried to add you but your list was full, I think.)

The chat rooms are the key to playing with friends.

My PSN ID is Maggost_ve

So the matchmaking is 100% useless? the only way to play is trough Chat lobbies?

Some people living in certain regions might be lucky enough to get a few humans in matchmaking. But most people that I know have never gotten a single real person.

The community is good, but to be honest…there is probably a maximum 2-3 chatroom-organized matches going on in the most active timezones, and 0 going on in the least active timezones.

If you have a good PC, I just can’t recommend the PS3 version to you. I think you would very quickly notice things that you take for granted on PC, such as dedicated servers, and server lists…and I’m not sure if our framerate would be much better. Big games especially can be choppy.

I guess it really depends on just how bad your framerate is…how much you want to play Brink…and how much work/cash it would take to get Brink running better on your PC.

And SD has announced any news to fix the matchmaking?

In the PC version, the North America servers are almost 80% empty at any time of the day, Europe servers are so laggy for me so it’s not worth it, the PC version is terrible and i had my PS3 since 2 months, i bought a lot of games and any runs perfect for me, it’s pretty fun and challenging to play with a controller and easy setup to joind multiplayer games.

Why not have both options? Especially if you already own a console. Not many games like Brink. That’s one of the fundamental problems underlying every post in this forum. If you like it (despite issues) and know its fun playing with other people, I can see why one would get it on another system. Just to expand the potential of playing with people.

Ive been trying to delete people that I dont play with off my list if you want you can try again I think I have room now lol.

And on matchmaking it DOES work but due to the many dif games modes and the matchmaking being done by rank it just fractures the community into lil games. You could find a lot of people playing competition and Big Teams but in the last week or two those modes seem to have emptied a bit as well. Now it seems like most randoms will be in Standard (which sucks cause thats only 4 v 4 with bots ATM) and some on Big Teams. Whenever I host a game I try do do it in a pub server (either big teams or old skool) so that if randoms do join the game they can at least experience Brink at its best and hopefully leave them with a better taste in their mouth then theyd get playing 1 v 1 with bots or 6v2 (stacked) with bots. Once the DLC and patch come out Im sure more people will be hopping back on which will be good. but we have a decent sized community and can get some good games going.:stroggbanana:

Hopefully with the level cap being raised with the DLC, they will consider adding a “Any Rank” to the search, and streamline the modes. VOIP, Rank, and Friendly Fire are the interchangeable parts that causes there to be many modes. Pairing the modes down to;

Stopwatch
Competitive:5v5
Objective:
Standard,
Custom,
and Advanced (VOIP+Friendly Fire+Any Rank)
would optimize the game.

Matchmaking has gotten a lot better (i usually dont get lag unless im playing with someone from like Australia or something) but like all matchmaking it still has its issues. Hopefully the patch will help it some more as well as combine Standard and Big Teams mode so its the way it was when the game launched (and the way the xbox360 has gone back to).

I play through the chats AND I jump into random games. i get human players in both. the chats are more reliable and generally have folks active from late afternoon on the east coast, to late night/early morning on the west. there’s no organized game nights, and some nights are packed, other nights, not so much. same story with ‘randoms’ - i’ll occasionally jump into a game just for kicks, and have a 4-6 v 4-6 within 1/2 a match. the bots are capable enough that 4v4 (humans) will keep the games quite interesting.

the key is both patience, and a willingness to say ‘fuqit, it’s dead tonight, I’m gonna play _____’ OR ‘holy ****, it’s blowing up tonight, gonna wait to play _____’ (i will jump in the chat when I’m willing to play but not currently playing, so when the invites roll in, im ready to jump into a match)

(tangoliber) #15

True. I just felt that looking at his reasons for wanting an alternative to the PC version…(framerate, ease of finding matches) that he probably wouldn’t be satisfied with the PS3 version either.

I’d love to have more people playing on PS3…but I don’t wanna mislead the guy.

(Apocalypse_Pony) #16

If you can’t find a game on the PC, just join a server. I went to play last night and the ONE active NA server was full. I joined an empty server and played with the bots for a while. By the 3rd round the server was full.

Of course, that doesn’t mean much if it’s unplayable for you.

(gooey79) #17

Being an owner of the game on PC and on PS3, I would say it’s worth it on PS3 if you pay less than £20.00.

Anything more than that (in my view) is too expensive for the game. The community is small, but is there - like others say; use this forum to get into human vs human games. The graphics are really quite poor, I’d say 2007-08 PS3 era quality. Lag can be a major issue on some games but not all, to be fair.

Having said that, if you can get into a game it is fun. Definitely feels more at home on console since the UI and in-game automated features (i.e. buffs and S.M.A.R.T) are clearly designed for controller buttons.

If the price is right, get it. Not a £40 game, just yet.

(Nicko1021) #18

You just keeping on finding more fake reasons as to why Brink flopped? Btw, EVERY GAME IS MORE FUN WITH FRIENDS YA TARD.

(thesuzukimethod) #19

in the US, easy to find it new for $40 and used for 35. sometimes less if you have a good Craigslist Community

not quite sub 20 pounds, but pretty close…

What I don’t get is you basically wasted your money on the pc version, and now you want to spend (imo waste) even MORE money on a game that is dead?

You shouldn’t have to go to chat rooms or go to the forum to play this game. I want my friends list full of friends. Not add a boatload of people and HOPE that they are on when I am.
