any good ideas for vietnam maps?

(twt_thunder) #1

hey folks,
as it says is there any good maps for this?
working on some myself but they are far from good…

Aloha,

i asume you mean maps with a bit more trees than a usual map.

nemorosuspb2 - should be pretty good for the vietnam mod
hog_b12_dt - dunno but it has lotta wood. maybe with permission change it into bamboo stuff
sedesrc1 - underground

Well, i think they would maybe fit into the vietnam mod atmosphere, i hope so

Dunno if you are working on or with the vietnam mod team but i hope to see some stuff soon again, it is one of the best mods around, especially the atmosphere is awesome

lol… what is this? East Front mod wearing Vietnam mod textures? curious.

Anyways Thunder, about maps… If you are looking for “forest maps”, but not using texture pack, you could test Nemorosus PB3, Haunted Mansion, Kha Ran Than for sure… or just Wurburg Radar/Radar Summer.

But when thinking about Vietnam style maps, it seems people only think about jungle maps.

But the typical Nam War battles are, if Im right:

  • Jungle skirmish
  • Harbour attack
  • Urban combat
  • Attack Military Base at the top of the hill
  • Jungle/river village
  • Burned/bombarded Hill (Hamburger Hill  )
  • Tunnel Rats
  • Convoy Escort
  • Huey/airplane down rescue
  • Beach Landing/invasion?
  • And of course, you can combo them.

So, not only jungle scenarios. In example could match with Nam War maps as Xposed, Supply Depot, Venice, Caen, Dubrovnik…

But the true is there are not jungle maps for ET (obviously) except some sniper maps, if I remember right.

EDITED:

Sorry, duplicated post

Saberpeak certainly fits the tropical theme, and is also a harbour attack. :stuck_out_tongue: Suited?

(stealth6) #10

trouble is that to really give a map a good tropical theme you need ALOT of plant models close to eachother.
This is going to kill your FPS and maybe the compiler too

Ufff… I fear another (Vietnam) Mod stealing again

why can’t people just patiently wait

(B0RG) #12

Well, my personal opinion is people can test whatever they want privatelly. Also maybe Blad3 just placed the texture pack inside etmain folder and EF textures were overwroten. Well, cant say cause dunno how EF textures work.

Obviously I cant talk from EF guys thought.

(twt_thunder) #15

these two are on the server

(twt_thunder) #16

might do…with some changes
…but then i had to find the author…

(ailmanki) #17

Hm maybe if you make a jungle so dense that one can’t really see far, you could maybe solve the tris problem…
Afaik a jungle is dense, but then you get mostly a machete … lol… maybe knife through the jungle, but then the tris problem is back…

Also maybe you can work with lod settings and plants in different lod levels.

(mortis) #18

Take a look at the destroyed city of Hue in the movie “Full Metal Jacket”…lots of realistic imagery there…
