ET keeps crashing.

(emPulse) #1

I am not new to ET by any means, so yes i have re-installed, updated and patched… Alot of people today (Saturday April 3rd 5:24pm eastern ) are complaing of this problem:

-click ET icon
-ET Loads
-Intro Screen
-I select PlayOnline
-ET goes to servers screen…
-ET CRASHES.

this happens everytime…take that back it didn’t happen 1 time outta 1000. I did get online once. Any suggestions…

Could this have to do with the time change and the fact that some servers have changed time already, or am i blowing smoke up my own arse?

thanx-puzzled-

emPulse

(Subterfuge) #2

Yeah, I know what you are talking about. Today I have ghosted my drive, Installed 3 different drivers and it still keeps crashing in the serverbrowser window. Could someone please give an explanation.

Sub!

Edit: And the times it doesn’t crash it is sooooooo sooooooo slow listing the servers

(CooperHawkes) #3

yeah… i’m having this problem too atm :frowning: and i need my daily play of et soooo badly
maybe another overflow bug exploited by a misconfigured server?
well… i will try now with qstat

UPDATE:
qstat is working… just dl, compile and type
qstat -u -sort np -q3m,83 192.246.40.60:27950 | less
and then connect to a server by typing:
et +connect <IP>:<PORT>

oh… did i mention that this is the command line for linux? do windows users have something like “more” ? then just replace “less” by “more” :-)…
or write it to a file:
qstat -u -sort np -q3m,83 192.246.40.60:27950 > blah.txt

and: yes… server listing is slow today :frowning:

(Spooky Fodder) #4

Yup, same problem here as well. Game loads fine but as soon as I click on play online ET hard locks. Here is what the console has to say…

Any Help would be apreciated. Thx.

(slippyfist) #5

I was having the same problems it seems to be something with the server finder on the game .I used the all seeing eye program and connected from there it bypassed the in game search engine and worked just fine.If you know the ip of the server you want to go to typing /connect ##.##.##.## should work too.

(Fusen) #6

oh goody goody lol just happened to me and this is first thread that ym search turned up so it is the server browser then

(Danyboy) #7

Yeah its happening to me as well - although now - If i click on Play Online v. quickly after ET loads it doesnt crash

But my list of servers is tiny - maybe 6 servers - with all filters turned off

(xwin) #8

Glad it’s not just me.

I reinstalled three times, no dice.

If I load it a few times, I can get to the screen, but I get maybe six or seven servers in the list with everything off.

If I can get past that to the Connect IP screen and connect to my server, I’m good.

EDIT: Started yesterday, BTW.

(Rain) #9

I wish it happened for me so that I could figure out why it’s happening for other people.
:weird:

(Crotalus) #10

This started happening to me yesterday (4/3) also. I d/led a new map and got on a server and played for a bit. when i went back to reconnect it either crashed when i hit Play Online or while the server browser was loading the list. I deleted the new map as well as some other pk3 (mostly server mapcycles/campaigns) but it still happens. When it didnt crash the list took forever to load 6 servers in the browser. I finally had to connect to servers through Pathfinder. The only problem now is that my video resolution is at a lower resolution then i usually play. it is at 800x600 and i play at 1024x768. i will figure that one out later.

(Sauron|EFG) #11

Weird. In ET the servers are added at a really slow pace, and Pathfinder only gives me about 30 servers.

When I query the master myself I get ~1456 servers.

EDIT: May be garbage in some packets from the master.

(RivrStyx) #12

Happening here also.
Can’t get my servers to show up in the browser either when i do sometimes get the browser to work (got complaints from players our servers weren’t showing). They just will not show up. Theres only a handful of servers in there and as said …updates real slow. Maybe something to do with new punksbusted auto update of the servers ban list their doing screwing up?. :disgust:

I use all seeing eye myself …so no problem …but most use the ingame browser. Hope somethings done soon. Maybe put off the auto ban list update until its thoroughly tested if thats causing this.

(Crotalus) #13

wierd

wiith these Query server options in PathfindeET:

Version - Patch 1.02
Speed -DSL
Include Empty servers -checked
Include Full servers - checked
Master IP (the three little dots next to Query Master) - 192.246.40.60:27950

I got 2019 servers with 5763 players. it was a little slower than normal but still worked without crashing.

IRT RivrStyx: I saw that they implemented the new PB Auto-master ban list recently (yesterday?). I wondered if that is what is causing all this trouble.

(dJ6i8bY) #14

im also gettin this problem. but the game will run on 800/1024/1200 rez but not 1154 lol. When it dose load up i also only get a very short list of servers and using gamespy will get me into anyserver without a problem.

(X51TerrorMecha) #15

Yes and if you follow this link everyone here is also crashing:

http://www.nd80usa.net/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=9343&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0

My guess is its something that punk buster needs to fix, I wouldnt reinstal/uninstall anything. Since its happening to everyone, its something wrong with the game, not you

(fkfen) #16

I have experienced this problem too which started in last few days. ET instantly crashes when I have downloaded servers list from internet and use favourites or internet setting for servers. When I delete servercache.dat from my profile window It “works” until I download something screwy srom master server again(few seconds, sometimes longer) . It is slow always. Connecting to servers and playing gives no problems though. Sometimes when it crashes it gives me a chance to send error report to microsoft. Other times it gives me a console with some info on it. Here are some of my error messages.

I also got some error message that said couldnt open shader levelshots or something like that which I didnt anyway write down. It was written in console window when trying to search servers but Ive seen it only once and Ive tried lots of things multiple times except reinstalling the game. I really believe this is some master server list bug.

Id like to add that even if Ive closen my internet connection ET still crashes until I delete servercache.dat from my profile.

fkfen (or someone else), can you get me a similar log with developer set to 1?

Here you have. btw regarding info on my last sentence on last post. I need to be online and start ET. After that I close my internet connection and then click play online. I am able to get this error only this way while being offline. I don`t get any error if I start ET and click play online with with my internet connection closed from start up.

(Rain) #19

Was this after deleting servercache.dat? If not, could you do that and see if the output is any different? (You can PM me the output if you don’t want to add Yet Another Huge Log to the thread.)
The log you provided doesn’t show anything being received, so if it’s not restoring servercache.dat there, I’m not sure what exactly is going on. :weird:
Alternately, if you (or anyone) can provide a servercache.dat that causes the crash, that’d be better than nothing.
