ETQW engine regression?

I’m reposting on these forums because the volume is too high on the other forums. I have a Mac Book Pro with XP running in Parallels Desktop 3.0. I can run Doom 3 and Quake 4 just fine, however Enemey Territory: Quake Wars crashes on startup. I have not had a successful start ever and have not changed any ETQW settings.

Looks like I’m screwed. I have the Gigabyte version of the ATI x800 XT. They have not updated their drivers since 2005. Not sure if the original ATI ones will work.

The X800 series should be supported. Try grabbing the latest drivers from ATI or try Omega Drivers.
I’m downloading the beta right now to try at work. (BBA X800XL)

Yeah, the GFX card manufacturer’s drivers are usually behind/inferior to the reference driver from the chipset maker. Only reason to use it is if your card has some features that the ATI driver doesn’t support, and even then it’s not worth it if you want the best performance/stability.

Well the X800XL works great with the latest Omegas.
Was a nice way to spend the day at “work”. :lol:

I have the latest drivers. Why would it work in Doom 3 and Quake 4, but not in ETQW? It is the same engine, correct?

It is based on the D3 engine. That doesn’t mean it’s the same. It is quite likely that ET:QW requires different features than D3.
