Starting our ET map...

(Mirco) #1

Hello, I was just wandering if we could start to get most of the basics of our map done using traditional rtcw mapping methods since the ET tools have not been released yet. Or is ET mapping alot different from rtcw mapping? We have a great idea and cant wait to get started

Anything else we should be aware of before we start?

Cheers. :drink:

The basis of all good maps is planning. I really cannot stress this enough. You should really have the map planned out on paper/whiteboard/napkins first. Then create a block out and test the size and speed of the map. (This can be done in RTCW) Test the footprint, see how it feels to walk it and imagine the extra detail. This is the time to check frame rate considerations etc. Do small test maps for special concepts/areas of the map.

Hopefully the ET editing tools will be ready by then.

i’ve planened, and am about 25 percent in modelling the map… but it is currently untextured. i’m making the textures (new ones) simultaneously, so when the kit comes out all i need to do is texture and script
