looks like it

i dont like the comment ‘leading on xbox360’ i hope it isnt designed as a console game then ported to PC!

i don’t like fps on consoles, they suck. but if it’s done by id and one can use mouse n keyboard on the xbox360 it might be worth a try. the thing i don’t want is to play it with a gamepad.

but i’d rather like to see it for nintendo revolution with the awesome new controller. i already see myself jumping around in the living room hiding behind the couch, shooting with the controller. awesome  :moo:

either way, the step id takes makes fully sense:

Cross-platform development between Windows and Xbox is being actively pursued - in the future, Microsoft hopes that people will be able to play games against each other using either platform.

i don’t think a migration of xbox360 to pc will be hard for game developers. probably they only have to set the compilation target and recompile. the only problem is whether or not they consider that gameplay on pc and console are totally different.

edit: just read the following which sucks deeply:

You can plug in a keyboard but this is for text input only - including in massively-multiplayer games. You can’t use it to play games and that was a design choice.

I am hoping that cross-platform gaming comes before the next generation(before PS4 and Xbox 720 or w/e).

(Joe999) #5

i hope it never comes because i can’t stand the whining of console players that people who are forced to play with controller are far more limited than pc gamers.

Unless they license a finished engine they still need to optimize the renderer for a number of different GPUs on the PC, and also rewrite all Assembly and SIMD code. If the code is optimized for the multicore PPC CPU in the xbox they’ll probably have to change even more.

(And of course change the controllers to mouse/keyboard input.)

D3 and Q4 (which I assume will be the starting point for the engine) are already on PC and being ported to xbox360, so keeping it portable shouldn’t be that hard.

dont seem too fair unless they acept the keyboard and mouse

in the article is says u can use keybord bor stuff like MMO but no to play games, dont no about mouse’s

anyway back to the point, RTCW2 is more than confirmed… gonna be a mad year, ET2 then RTCW2 - all the whiners can now rejoice!

     <<rejoice!

Must get new computer. No, reward myself with a new computer.

Crossplatform games can be a bad thing IMO… Console titles are often “dummed down”. Take Deus Ex 2 as an example… That was developed primarily for console and lacked some of the depth that made Deus Ex an amazing game.

i’m not pleased. i have no intentions of ever buying any console. it’s just not my thing. the PC is my hobby, and i only game on the PC as well as many other things i do with it cough porn cough :stuck_out_tongue:

the first wolf was for C64. the next was DOS. then RTCW solidified the PC as the realm of wolfenstein. this is a bad move imo. but it makes sense. the new consoles are gonna be must-have items for those who buy everything they are told they “must have” by the media.

i just pray they give the PC version the proper attention. multiplayer wolf is the guts of the franchise. and NO MATTER WHAT, the PC will always dominate online multiplayer gaming, because people are always online with their PC anyway. turning consoles into PCs is only an admission that PCs are superior, tbh.

i will die before i will buy a console.

Same goes for GTA: San Andreas in my eyes. Vice City looked better textured, as they took the higher-res art whilst PS2 used low-res.

(amazinglarry) #15

I’m personally not too impressed that it’s going to be initially released on the XBox 360. Consoles are so lame because the same game isn’t always available for all the systems… so you essentially need all 3 consoles to play all the “console games” whereas you only need ONE PC to play ALL PC games. Well… if your PC sucks, then you’ll need a new one =)

I can’t stand FPS games on consoles, except on the N64. (I can’t handle 2 joysticks as my brain doesn’t function correctly that way). PC is where it’s at for me and will continue to be at. I just hope us PC users aren’t eventually only left with the MMPORG genre…

A man of principles!

Video of the announcment:

(Pytox) #18

I would never buy a console :stuck_out_tongue:
I prefer playing games on pc because you can do more cough

(carnage) #19

well it is ID so they prob no what thye are doing

perhaps the advantage of the 360 will be that they know the exact specs of the system that will be running it, so they can push the game to the limits while knowing no1 will get poor fps or similar

$300 for the console is a lot cheaper than what it would cost many to get the needed hardware to play the game. maby the doom3 enoinge came too soon, i know a lot of rtcw players who are unable to play doom3 and many would like to but the cost are too much

(faltytower) #20

Disappointing id is using Wolf to break into the console market, but this isn’t really surprising at all giving Carmack’s speech at QuakeCon. Just hope the MP for the PC version (if it gets ported at all) doesn’t get watered down.
