Megatexture Question

recently i saw some xbox360 demos, one among them was the game kameo. graphically it’s really exciting, but there was one thing that bugged me: you could clearly see repetitve textures on the ground which imo looks ugly.

here’s an example image:

the same is the case on this unreal 3 image:

look at the grass. you clearly can see that it’s repetitive.

my question: is this drawback solved with the megatexture technology?

Don’t forget that the games that are mentioned aren’t finished yet as well. I also don’t think the ground texture won’t have anything to do with the ones that will be there in ETQW. If these were ETQW pics, okey, but they arent.

thanks for pointing that out. considering this, i wonder how large in pixels such a bitmap would be in case of eg Oasis.

how do you go about creating such a large texture without using any tile’n? :???:
