Huge maps and vehicles

What is the fuss about huge maps and vehicles? It seams like every MP developer pee in there paints when they hear about huge maps and vehicles. Unfortunately ET:QW is going to have both of these, from Andrew Park at game spot “Many of the missions in Quake Wars will take place in huge outdoor areas in which the fastest mode of transport will be in a vehicle�.

I have played games like Battlefield and Joint ops which have both vehicles and huge maps. For some reason I did not see the glory. You get in a vehicle ( driven by your self or someone else ) in order to get to the battle. On the way you are taken down by a rocket launcher. Then you have to wait to get re spawned. When that happens you see that here is no vehicle available so what do you do, yes you have to run. After running for some time a sniper shoots you down. Now you have to wait again. After doing this over and over you wonder how much you contribute to the battle, especially when there are about 100 players on that map.

One good thing, in my opinion, about the small maps are the clan fights. Have you heard of clan with members of 50 people?

Do these games have huge maps or vehicles? Well yes UT2004 has one game type, onslaught, with vehicles but the others does not.

Someone might say that RTCW ET has tanks and trains. Well yes but you are escorting them not driving them, i.e. you can not decide where they will go.

I and my friends have a clan and we have been playing RTCW ET for 2 years now. It is a grate game but after two years we have grown a little tired with the game and as many others we have been waiting for RTCW2. We believed that SD was developing the multi player but that is not the case. They are developing a multi player for one of my favourite games Quake. The graphics seam to be grate, well they are grate, there is just this downside about the huge maps and vehicles.

Why can’t some game developing company make MP maps for about 20 to 30 players with out vehicles.

Because for that, you should play Quake 4. This is a team absed “WAR” game on a huge scale. How can we have maps THIS BIG without them :wink:

I see your point and a lot of people feel thatway too, because they would rather play a game like Qukae 3 and not UT. So, if thats the case, play Quake 4. Or if you want something different, play ET:QW. There is something in both games for everybody.

large maps with vehicles can be done right, just look at tribes2. nobody complains that tribes2 is slow. in tribes2 if your vehicle is destroyed, you bail out and assuming you survive the landing you can carry on fighting :slight_smile:

no idea how et:qw will handle this. but if it’s unusably flawed it can always be corrected in a mod :smiley:

I really fear the vehicles in QW :frowning:

Just because in my opinion they haven’t done any good to other fps games, especially in multiplayer (haven’t played tribes 2 :wink: )

Can SD do it better ? I hope so, but I also hope there will be maps without vehicles or where vehicles don’t play a too important role.

I’ll be very interested in how many players servers will support (obviously depending on spec).
ET suited about 14-20 players imho, due to the size of maps and style of play. If we have large outdoor maps then hopefully 30-40 players won’t turn into a spam fest.

Yep. Market Garden :slight_smile: My own clan, link below. We had like 60 members. Now we have about 30 after much happened. Ive got about 80 members we had on a list, so ya it is possible.

You can always make maps that exclude vehicles. COD-UO has vehicles, yet there are tons of maps built without them and tons of servers that just don’t enable them

Joint Ops does it well… cant complain about 150 player servers now can we.
