Highest and Lowest Quality Q3Map2 settings?

(Matt) #1

What are the absolute highest quality settings for Q3map2, and the lowest? (Regardless of build time for the highest quality, wherein that high quality is defined as a blend of the most realistic lighting, most realistic shadows, and the best in-game performance. The lowest quality is defined as, what should we set to test our map the quickest with a full lightmap, similar to what the final product will be?)

Thank you for all of your innovation Randy.

highest maybe like this:
bsp with -meta -patchmeta
vis normal
light with -extrawide -patchshadows

lowest:
bsp with -meta -patchmeta
vis -fast
light - fast

this is only a guess… for highest you could also have small samplesize(like 2 or 4)

BSP phase:
-meta

Vis phase:
-vis

Light phase:
-light -super 2 -filter -bounce 8

But all of these things depend on the map. If it’s a large outdoor map, or has phong-shaded areas, or other bits–there are numerous factors that contribute to what compile settings you’d want to use.

Won’t patchmeta make your patches non solid ?

edit:
Ooops, looks like 2.3.31 fixes that.
